First Step Recovery Opens New 7-Bed Female Recovery House

Apr 22, 2024
Recovery
In this blog post, you’ll discover how our new female recovery house helps women in our community thrive!

A safe, drug-free environment is essential for achieving sustained recovery. When individuals return to the same “people, places and things” that were part of their lives during active addiction, maintaining recovery can be incredibly difficult. That’s why we’re so excited about our new female recovery house that provides a safe, supportive environment to help women grow and thrive!

First Step Recovery’s new seven-bed female recovery house provides a cozy, home-like atmosphere with enough space for our residents to be alone while still having access to recovery support. The home is managed by a recovery coordinator and peer support workers who have in-depth knowledge and understanding of recovery principles.

There are so many benefits of a sober living environment such as

  • providing ongoing accountability.
  • establishing and maintaining a structured routine.
  • offering peer support with others who value/encourage recovery.
  • teaching life skills including budgeting and time management.
  • helping to reduce the risk of relapse.

What Female Residents Can Expect

A resident’s daily routine begins with making the bed and engaging in recovery reading or morning meditation. This helps establish a positive, recovery-focused outlook for the day. Residents participate in various activities throughout the day—depending on where they are in their recovery journey. They might attend 12-step meetings, engage in our Intensive Outpatient Program (three hours daily, three days per week of group recovery programming) or take part in aftercare (90 minutes, once per week). Depending on where they might be in their recovery journey, residents might also be employed.

For the first two weeks after entering our new female recovery house, residents are permitted to leave only with authorized individuals (which might include peers, family, etc.). This helps to promote healthy relationships/choices and establish trust between the residents and those who manage the recovery house.

Each week on Sundays from noon-6pm, residents are encouraged to invite their family for a visit in the home. This weekly face time is an important way to help residents strengthen their relationships with immediate family members.

After 30 days in the home, residents who provide proof of a valid driver's license and car insurance are permitted to have a car at the home.

The length of stay for each resident depends on their individual goals and progress. When residents are ready to move on from our recovery house, we ensure that they have a relapse prevention plan in place to further promote sustained recovery.

Typically, recovery housing is the final phase in our continuum of care. As individuals progress in their recovery, each phase of treatment provides an increased level of independence. Our ultimate goal is to help female residents establish a healthy recovery lifestyle that they will continue to maintain as they move on to living independently. We work diligently to ensure they have the tools and encouragement needed to succeed in recovery and thrive in their lives.
